Gong Alternative for Teams Without an SDR Bench

Gong reads the calls your reps already have. When the shortage is the conversations themselves, here is how AI Sales Console compares, and when Gong still wins.

Gong is the stronger buy when your salespeople already hold plenty of conversations and the goal is to win more of them; AI Sales Console is the stronger buy when the shortage is the conversations themselves. Gong is a revenue AI platform built around conversation intelligence, with outreach, forecasting, and coaching products, and AI Sales Console is the AI Sales Brain, six specialized AI agents directed by one learning Brain: Sage on research, Alex on voice calls, Mia on email, Zara on SMS, Nova on analytics, and Jade on coaching, from $1,999 a month. Gong has moved into outreach, so some overlap exists, but each product's center of gravity is a different moment: Gong's is the recorded call, and ours is the lead before anyone has contacted it.

What Gong is genuinely good at

Gong records and transcribes customer calls and meetings, then turns that record into deal inspection, forecasting, and coaching for a revenue team. On call analysis, deal intelligence for an account executive organization, and coaching, it is ahead of us. It has also expanded toward the first touch: Gong Engage gives sales teams a dialer, sequences Gong calls Flows, and an AI Composer that drafts emails using context from earlier customer conversations, alongside AI agents Gong describes as working with revenue teams. For a company whose closers spend their week in discovery and demo calls, that depth is what you are paying for.

What the AI Sales Brain does differently

AI Sales Console starts from a lead rather than from a recording. Single-agent AI SDRs automate one channel; the AI Sales Brain coordinates six agents across voice, email, and SMS with shared learning. Sage researches a lead before anyone contacts it, then Alex takes the phone, Mia the inbox, and Zara the text thread, all inside campaigns you approve. Nova scores which openings, objections, and follow-ups earned replies from your leads, and the Brain applies those findings to later touches, which is why it gets sharper every week. Inbound leads hear back in under 60 seconds, 24/7, the phones scale to 500 or more calls a day at sub-500ms voice latency, and a new account is live in 72 hours.

Both keep transcripts, of different calls

Both products end up holding call transcripts, which can make them look like they do the same job. The difference is who was on the call. Gong's transcripts come from the calls and meetings your reps hold, and Gong puts them to work in coaching, deal inspection, drafted follow-ups, and briefs for a colleague taking over an account. Ours come from the calls our agents place. When a prospect is ready for a human, the record of what Alex heard, what Mia sent, and the next step goes with the lead, so the person taking over starts from what was already said. If the goal is to study how your own people sell, only Gong's transcripts contain them.

What each one costs, and what the quote covers

Gong sells on a custom quote sized to your team, so request a figure at the headcount you plan to carry and confirm which Gong products it includes. Plans here are published: Team at $1,999 a month, Growth Pro at $2,999, Growth Elite at $3,999, SDR Team at $7,999, and a custom Enterprise tier, with no per-seat fees. Annual billing saves 17% and eligible early-stage startups save 30%. The first 30 days run on your own pipeline, with no card, and there is a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first paid month. For a human comparison point, one SDR runs $11,200-12,800 a month fully loaded (on-target earnings of $80,000 or more per The Bridge Group 2025, plus U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics employer-cost factors, tools, and management), with a 3-4 month ramp. Every tier is listed on the pricing page.

What each one asks of you to get started

Each product asks for different things from your side at the start:

  • Gong's conversation intelligence needs access to the calls, meetings, and email your team is already having, which it records and analyzes.
  • Gong Engage needs Flows and an Engage-licensed rep assigned to each prospect in them. Automations can enroll prospects from CRM updates or dates, and automated email steps send without rep intervention, while manual email and call steps wait for the assigned rep.
  • The Brain needs a list of leads you have the right to contact.
  • It needs you to sign off on each campaign.
  • It needs a calendar connection, such as Google Calendar, Calendly, or Cal.com, so booked meetings land somewhere real.

Whichever half of that list you can satisfy this month is usually the product to start with.

Side by side

The grid below is the same one the comparison page uses, so a claim here is a claim we make everywhere. Yes means the product does it as a core job, Partial means it does part of it, No means it is not that product's job, and Stronger means the other product is better at it and we say so.

When Gong still wins

Gong wins wherever the conversations already exist and the money is in how they go. An account executive team running discovery and demos all week, a sales leader who needs evidence about which deals are real before the quarter closes, and newer closers learning from recordings of the strongest ones are Gong's home ground, and none of that is work our agents are built for. Jade coaches our live AI conversations and is not a substitute for Gong's coaching of your people. And no software wins a complex, high-trust close. Humans do that. The AI is for the repetitive top-of-funnel volume that dies waiting for someone to get to it.

The bottom line

Gong is the right purchase when the transcripts you most need are of your own people selling. The Brain is the right purchase when the leads worth transcribing have not been worked yet: six specialized agents on voice, email, and SMS from $1,999 a month put more pipeline within reach at a fraction of what another hire costs. The feature grid is on the Gong comparison page. If you have not yet decided whether a person or software should take your first sales seat, the founder's guide to a first sales hire walks through that choice.
